the author

I’m Stephanie Woodie, an Appalachian author shaped by the ridgelines, hollers, and quiet backroads of Ashe County, North Carolina. Around here, stories rise up the way morning fog does, slow, steady, and full of things worth listening to if you take the time.My work reflects the language, humor, grit, and quiet beauty of mountain life. I

’m the author of The Holler Handbook: A Dictionary of the Appalachian Language, Ghost: The Desert’s Child, Round Two, Round Three, I am Darkness. Round four and The Holler Hand book, the dictionary of Appalachian Sayings coming soon, that honor the voices and traditions of this region and its power to inspire creativity.

You’ll find my books on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/author/swoodie, where I continue to build a collection rooted in heritage and imagination.

I also have a small stop on Etsy at: https:www.rusticatplay.com, inspired by the same mountains that raised me. It’s a place for handmade pieces, natural finds, and simple creations that feel at home in the hills. Things like authentic artifacts found in nearby fields. There are also ores from the same areas as historical mines. Ore Knob is famous for its copper and gold deposits. And crafted furnishings from reclaimed lumber or naturally fallen trees.

Like many people here, I keep to myself for the most part, living a quiet life. I cherish these mountains and its people. They’re the reason I write, the reason I create, and the reason I believe that if the creek don’t rise, there’s always another story in the making.

If you love Appalachian culture, down‑to‑earth storytelling, or creative work shaped by place and tradition, I’m glad you found your way here.
